Old San Juan, a section of the capital, San Juan, dates from the 1500s. If you search online for images of Old San Juan, you’ll see colorful building facades. Here’s a photograph of how it looked in 1970.
What hasn’t changed are the narrow streets with cobblestone once used as ballast on Spanish ships arriving to be loaded with sugarcane.
