May I present four more photos of Rome from the early 1980s?
Two of the photos are of structures that honor the first king of a united Italy, Victor Emanuel II, 1820-1878. Both structures were inaugurated in 1911. Vittoriano is a rather controversial structure though not because of Victor Emanuel (see, e.g., http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monument_to_Vittorio_Emanuele_II ).
I’ve no idea where I was in Rome when I took the third photo, but I don't think it matters. The last photo was from one of the windows in one of the small hotels.
