Philippine Typhoon Photo Addendum

Writing about climate in my last blog post, I remembered photos I had of the aftermath of a weather event in the Philippines. Category 4 Typhoon Patsy struck Luzon, the main island, on 19 November 1970, with winds as high as 125 miles per hour, causing over 600 deaths. In the Philippines, Typhoon Patsy was known as Typhoon Yoling.

The small print on the wall of this Fortune Cement building reads: “To give you structural strength and durability.” At least the parts of the structure that collapsed weren’t concrete. PhilippineTyphoon Yoling, 1970

P.S.

This may not be the right product for you and your area, but you should be prepared.

  1. I was still a child then and lost our home due to Typhoon Yoling, running from one room to another room and eventually all the roofs were gone. I did not realize the damage it did then. Typhoon Yolanda 2013 just reminded me about the severity of the typhoon and brings back memories.

  2. Typhoon Haiyan reminded me of Patsy/Yoling as well. As a nine year old I thought of it as one great adventure but of course it wasn't. See my photos at: http://maartenvanbommel.nl/1970-mijn-eigen-filippijnse-tyfoon/
